This is a fantastic book. Wellum is a natural writer and draws you into his world with ease. What struck me most and has stayed with me since is the progression from a wide eyed eager school boy, to a burnt out, exhausted empty shell of a man. This change is so subtle and gradual, that when he reaches the end of his tether, you feel it too.
